The cost of a subscription has been drastically reduced in recent years due to the growing popularity of it as well as the lower costs of maintaining the satellites. Satellite radio is most often utilized in vehicles, but has also gained popularity among those that wish to listen online. In the latest episode to come from the “Informed” series, Rob Lowe takes an in depth at look at the often times controversial subject of social networking platforms that offered for teachers and students.
Primarily due to the fact that social media in the classroom can be such a distraction from the learning process, it has been strongly discouraged. As of late, however, teachers are beginning to embrace the use of social media as it becomes clear that can actually be a very effective tool in strengthening the learning process.
With the advent of social media platforms, students have become accustomed to communicating primarily through them. As a result of this, teachers have realized that students are much more inclined to participate in important discussions via their social media. When parents are also able to communicate with teachers via social media it strengthens the parent/teacher bond and encourages parents to be more involved in their child’s education. Social media is a great way for teachers to provide parents with classroom updates as well as keep them in the loop on homework assignments.
As with all new and advancing platforms, social media is not without its share of critics. Critics point out that the use of social media can increase a very real problem in the American School System today: cyber bullying. Critics also say that along with cyber bullying, the use of social media can also pull students away from having face-to-face interactions, which are a crucial part of the socialization process.
This segment from “Informed” will discuss this topic with experts from both sides of the issue to find out what steps are being made to move forward with the technology as well as keep students safe.
